Everything’s bigger in Texas

Everything’s bigger in Texas

so after staring aimlessly at my computer trying to decide what i should say for my first blog post EVER, i decided what better way to kick off my music blog than talk about my amazing experience at the austin city limits festival in texas last month.

I have always loved going to concerts, festivals, events, and pretty much anything involving music. being from california and growing up in a musical household, i had a lot of opportunities to go to concerts and festivals, such as outside lands and coachella.

although i had never been to an out of state festival, i was DYING to go to ACL and see how the texans do it down south. i have only heard amazing things about ACL, and once the lineup was released, i was completely sold. after a few months, i finally convinced my parents to buy me a flight to austin for my birthday.

for this blog, my goal is to post a few of my new favorite songs every week. soooo for this week, i’ll give you guys a little play-by-play on my absolute favorite performances during ACL!

my all time favorite performance was undoubtedly foster the people. I’ve always been obsessed with them, and after their recent release of their new album supermodel, my obsession became a little unhealthy. their music brought the festival to life, and had every single person within a mile radius completely engaged in what they were playing. if you guys haven’t already, go check out their new album asap.

lana del rey earned herself 2nd place in my book. i had seen her last year at coachella, and wasnt very impressed. i love all of her music, but wasn’t too thrilled when i heard her live. this time around she completely blew me away. the passion in her voice, lyrics, and the way she carries herself is something that i have never seen or heard before. she isn’t like most female singers today, which makes her so popular. her song “brooklyn baby” off of her ultraviolence album was my favorite song. i first heard it when i was flying back to school from home on a super cloudy day. not sure why that is relevant, but i think my depressed state of mind that day made me love the song even more than i would if i heard it any other time.

aaaaaand third place goes to CHVRCHES and Phantogram. love them both so much, so they tie for third because i just couldn’t decide. i saw phantogram at the hollywood forever cemetery a few weeks before ACL (if you haven’t been to that venue, you should seriously check it out.) phantogram was awesome both times around, their electronic sound and lively stage presence made for an unforgettable show. the energy both bands give off makes you want to dance for 24 hours straight. they’re so excited during performances, and vibe with their audiences, which definitely helps the crowd get into their show.

all in all, i had an absolutely amazing time at ACL. it was different than anything i was used to in california, and it was super cool to see what austin had to offer. if you ever have the chance to go to ACL, or any other festival for that matter…DO IT!
