not my uber driver

For the past couple of weeks I have been struggling with finding new music. To be honest, I have been lazy about it. I listen to the same five songs over and over and finally one day came to the conclusion that it was no longer fun. After I decided I needed to be on the lookout for some fresh songs and new bands….something extraordinary happened.

Last weekend, I had an Uber driver with absolutely impeccable taste in music. He was a quiet man who didn’t say much – but he didn’t have to. His Spotify playlists were out of this world and he inspired me to go out and discover some new stuff. He was humble and encouraging. What a guy.

One of his favorite bands is Alvvays. I had heard of the name but never took the time to sit down and really listen to their new album. Once I did, my life had been changed forever. This band is the one thing that had been missing from my Spotify queue.

This fairly new Canadian band is a refreshing addition to the Beach Goth genre. The members of Alvvays have been playing together since high school, but the band wasn’t officially formed until 2011. Molly Rankin, the lead singer and author of the majority of the songs, sounds a bit like the lead singer of Best Coast. Rankin has the ability to transport listeners to a completely different time, which is refreshing. I appreciate music that gives you the ability to escape and forget about any responsibilities or worries.

So shoutout to my Uber driver in Santa Monica, thank you for your outstanding service and pristine navigation skills. I will never forget you!!!

Aside from my obsession with Alvvays and my Uber driver, I have been listening to a lot of Cut Copy, Washed Out, Generationals, and Miami Horror.

Also today I decided I should probably make multiple playlists instead of just adding to one (It had 600 songs and took me ten minutes to scroll to the bottom). From 2013-2016 my music in is a playlist called “Adolescence,” and from 2017 on my music is in the same playlist, “Listen to me.”

Follow me on Spotify for all the cool jams and have yourself a #blessed Sunday!
